Operations Manager
As the impact of climate change on the insurance industry intensifies, FutureProof’s AI-based projections of losses from hurricanes and floods are powering a new generation of insurance underwriting.
FutureProof is seeking an Operations Manager to be a crucial member of the team building our digital MGA platform. The platform will underwrite near-instantly based on FutureProof’s uniquely granular catastrophe pricing and portfolio optimization model. We are a small team with a big vision: to create climate-smart insurance products to help close the coverage gap and motivate investment in climate adaptation.

Back-End Engineer
About You
You want to be the lead engineer on the team building our platform delivering our solutions to our partners in the insurance ecosystem. You will collaborate directly with the other FutureProof teams. Your work will be pivotal to shaping FutureProof's product.
You are an experienced backend engineer and have worked extensively on building scalable backend services in the cloud. You thrive on taking full ownership of your projects and delivering them on-time and with high quality. You demonstrate tenacity, resilience, and initiative, enabling you to organize and lead projects, overcome challenges, and propose solutions. You are highly collaborative in working with the rest of the engineering team as well as the other FutureProof teams. You also personify a growth mindset with a team-first attitude.

Responsibilities
The backend engineer role is a full-time position. In this role, you will be expected to:

Develop, maintain, and support new functionalities/services that are required for the product

Develop, maintain, and support the APIs that are the gateway to the product from external parties

Work effectively with tight deadlines and frequent iteration of product features.

Work closely with the product team to define and solidify the requirements for new functionalities/services and translate them into high-quality design and code

Work closely with the insurance and analytics team to rapidly iterate on new features/functionalities

Solve challenging and complex technical problems with appropriate (well-designed and thought-through) technical solutions

Help improve code quality by developing unit, functional, and end-to-end tests, and automating them in our infrastructure

Develop high-quality code that meets the internal standards and requirements for style, maintainability, and performance

Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to the rest of the team

Recognize impediments to our efficiency as a team (i.e., "technical debt"), propose and implement solutions
The role is remote and the job can be done from anywhere in the United States.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or related field

5+ years of professional experience as a backend engineer developing functionalities, services, and APIs
-
Experience developing REST-based APIs

Excellent knowledge of security and how to apply those principles to services and/or APIs
-
Proven ability in developing complex and high-performing backend functionalities, services, and APIs

Strong ability to code in Python

Have a basic working understanding of frontend technologies such as JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.

Experience with cloud deployments (GCP, AWS, or Azure) and Kubernetes

Strong communication skills with a high emphasis on the ability to explain technology in business terms

Ability to make technical decisions regarding the projects you own and drive initiatives to completion

Ability to derive and establish a path forward out of an ambiguous set of requirements

Familiarity with version control tools such as git

Stewardship of good engineering practices

Intuition for product prioritization and judicious compromise to iteratively deliver value
